Having been offered to open a franchising salon Karen leapt at the opportunity. In 2010 she became manager of the branch in the village of East Ardsley and took full ownership just one year later.

Personally seeing between forty and fifty clients a week, Karen’s days are dedicated to customers ensuring the highest standards of professional service.

Citing continuous education (courtesy of L’Oreal Professionnel), industry peers and salon colleagues as her main sources of inspiration, Karen believes passionately in the Room97 brand. ‘People trust us and know that they are in safe hands; I work hard to uphold those high standards.’

Karen describes herself as ‘committed, driven and passionate’ and she hopes that these positive traits will help her to emulate the success of her hairdressing icons – Beverly C, Carolyn Newman and Jo Hansford; ‘Successful women inspire me.’

Away from the salon, Karen lives in Wakefield with her husband and believes that the key to happiness is family, friends and a perfect work/life balance – something her dream client Victoria Beckham has revealed even she struggles with. ‘She’s a style icon’ says Karen. ‘I’m a huge fan and really admire all that she has achieved in her career.’

"I undertook L'oreal Professionnel's prestigious Colour Specialist Degree in 2013.

After much encouragement from Marcello I embarked on the 12 week course in the Leeds academy from March until June. I developed a portfolio and studied everything from Health and Safety, Science of the Hair and Scalp, Distribution of Pigment and levels of lightening to the business of colour in the salon. It was an incredibly motivating course, not only for me, but also for my team who were very enthusiastic and keen to learn my newfound skills.

We currently have four Colour Specialists at Room 97. Colour Specialist course has really developed and improved my skills as a colourist. It has given me confidence based on knowledge about every aspect of colour. Having ackquired these skills I am no longer phased by problems such as colour corrections.

Subsequently I now belong to a team called Colour Specialit A-List. We meet approx 4 times a year, whenever new products, technology or trends are launched we see and have training on them first before they are launched to salons. I am very privileged to have had this opportunity and I love being a Colour Specialist! "
